Abstract

1297471 Continuous casting MANNESMANN AG 19 April 1971 [29 Jan 1970] 20605/71 Heading B3F At least some of the rollers of a curved guideway for a cast strand are driven, the total driving force applied by the driven rollers 2-4 on the upper side being 0À1-0À5 times the total applied by the driven rollers 5-12 on the lower side. At least one of the upper side rollers, before the first point at which bending of the strand is effected, is driven, possibly with a higher torque than the subsequent upper driven rollers. The pressure exerted by each driven roller, e.g. loaded hydraulically or by spring, against the strand, is 1-1À5 times the load on the roller caused by ferrostatic pressure. The pressure exerted by each of the rollers 4, 10, 11 and 12 in the totally-solidified region of the strand is the same as that of the last roller 9 in the molten core area.
