An apparatus for making tubes by skelping includes an entry table for feeding the flat strip to a forming section, the entry table comprising an elongate base frame, a plurality of spaced rolls for supporting the strip and means rotatably mounted in the frame for preliminarily bending the strip, means for pivotally mounting one end of the base frame and means for effecting selective generally vertical arcuate movement of the other end of the base frame. The strip is fed over supporting rolls 10 by a pinch roll 44 which co-operates with one of the rolls 10 and which is adjusted by screws 50. The strip edges are guided by rolls 52 mounted in yokes 56 which are adjusted independently or simultaneously by a screwed shaft 62. A preliminary transverse bending of the strip is effected by rolls 12 and 13 in combination with a roll 70, prior to the strip entering the first rolls 80, 82 of the forming section proper. At the entry end of the entry table there are secured two brackets 96 which are pivotally connected brackets 92 secured to the fixed lower part of the apparatus. Arcuate movement in a generally vertical direction of the other end of the entry table is effected by a fluid cylinder 124 pivoted to a bracket 122 and having its piston rod pivotally connected to a bracket 126 secured to the entry table. The alignment of the entry table at the free end is ensured by a pair of pinions 116, (118) fixed on a common shaft journalled in the entry table and which mesh with two racks 106, (108) which are pivotally connected to the fixed lower part of the apparatus.
