A shaping device for bending a continuously supplied metal strip to helical form for the production of tubes comprises at least three rotatable strip deforming members between which the strip is passed and in which said stripdeforming members embody at least two rollers having part-spherical bearing surfaces for acting on the strip, the axes of which are arranged at an angle one to the other. Strip 6 from a spool 3 is fed by rollers 4, 5 and guided by rollers 7, 8 to pass between three bending units 9, 10, 11 rotatable about axes parallel to the axis of a tube 13 into which the strip 6 is coiled. Each bending unit comprises a frame 20 rotatable about its longitudinal axis 20<SP>1</SP> and carrying rollers 23 having part-spherical surfaces, the axes 23<SP>1</SP> of the rollers 23 being perpendicular to the axis 20<SP>1</SP> and also at an angle of for example 90 degrees or 45-60 degrees relative to one another. The bending unit 11 may be fixedly supported, Fig. 6, the bending unit 10 carried by an adjustable pivoted lever 42 and the bending unit 9 by a pivotably adjusted member 50. In another embodiment, Figs. 7, 8, bending units 70, 71, 72 act on one edge of the strip and coaxial bending units 70<SP>1</SP>, 71<SP>1</SP>, 72<SP>1</SP> (not shown) on the other edge of the strip. Each unit includes rollers 91, 92 carried in a frame 90 supported in brackets 76 on a rotatable rod 75 or 80, the bending units 72, 72<SP>1</SP>, however, being rotatably mounted in fixed bearing blocks 73. The bending unit frames may be rotatably driven. The helical seam may be arc or highfrequency welded.
