Abstract
638,150. Angular bending. MAILLOUX, A. LE. Jan. 1, 1947, No. 20. Convention date, May 24, 1946. [A Specification was laid open to inspection under Sect. 91 of the Acts, Sept. 20, 1947.] [Class 83 (iv)] Formers.-In a machine for cold-bending copper, aluminium, steel, &c. tubes, a grooved segmental bending former 11 carrying the tube 33 is rotated about a fixed pivot point to bend the tube 33 against a plurality of grooved rolls 54 mounted in an arc on a sliding fitting 49 transversely adjustable by a screw 21. The former 11 is rotated through gearing from an electric motor. The tube 33 is clamped to the former 11 by a chain 66 wrapped around it and wedged by a hand-operated cam 68. One of the rolls 54 is held in an offset mounting 59, screwadjusted to start the bending action. In a modification, Fig. 21, the tube is forced into the roll space by a chain 74 similarly cam-clamped to the tube 33 and secured to an arm 71 coaxial with the bending former 11, rollers 85 being provided on the former 11 to ensure a straight pull on the tube 33. The rolls 54 and former 11 are changeable for tube size and the fitting 49 may be reversed for opposite bending.
