Abstract

998,406. Coiling helically seamed tubing. CLAYTON, SON & CO. Ltd. April 16, 1962 [Jan. 28, 1961], No. 3364/61. Heading B3E. In, or for use in, a machine for making tubing of the kind in which strip is fed against a forming head or die set at an angle to the direction of movement of the strip such that the strip is given the required helical form and leaves the forming head or die laterally thereof as a tube, there is provided a die, die plate or forming head which is of arcuate form and is rockingly or pivotally supported so that it can be adjusted in or against the direction of movement of the strip. Strip to be coiled is fed against an arcuate die 10 which bends the strip at the bottom entry to the die. To compensate for different properties of different strip materials and to take care of spring-back the die 10 is adjustable about a pivot 11a by means of screws 17.
