Abstract

1418340 Straightening metal strip TOYO KOHAN CO Ltd 19 June 1973 [24 April 1973] 29037/73 Heading B3E Apparatus for straightening metal strip comprises work rolls 1, 2, a small diameter roll 3 having a diameter less than twice that of the work rolls and positioned on the opposite side of the strip 11 to the nearest work roll 2, and a medium diameter roll 4 having a diameter two to six times that of the work rolls and positioned on the opposite side of the strip to that of the small diameter roll, both the small diameter roll and medium diameter roll being supported by a pressurized liquid film on roll supports 6, 7. A deflector roll 5 is provided for altering the warp of the strip after the gutter is corrected by the small diameter roll 3 and curl is corrected by reverse bending at the roll 4. In an alternative embodiment, Fig. 2, a plurality of medium diameter rolls 21, 22 are provided instead of rolls 4, 5. These rolls 21, 22 are also supported on a pressurized liquid film, rolls 21 being two to six times the diameter of rolls 1, 2 and rolls 22 being two and one half to seven times the diameter of the work rolls. The rolls 3, 4, 22 are all vertically adjustable using respective screws 8, 9, 33.
