Abstract

1.128.309. Folding fabrics. SAMCOE HOLDING CORP. 10 June, 1966 [22 June, 1965], No. 26056/66. Heading D1S. Apparatus for effecting edge-to-centre reorientation of tubular knitted fabric 11 comprises an internal frame 13, Fig. 4, over which the fabric tube passes and which has a reorientating section 26 of generally flat form and substantially square cross-section. The fabric 11 passes from a supply roll 10 over a guideroll 12 and over the frame 13. The reorientated fabric 14, having its original side edges located along the centre line of the web, passes over a drive roll 15, which is preferably felt covered, a dancer roll 16, which controls an air motor 18 to keep the incoming and outgoing rates in balance, and a guide roll 17. The frame 13, Fig. 4, comprises sections 25, 26, 27 at right angles to each other and is preferably assembled from four components which are telescopically adjustable to accommodate different fabric widths. Pairs of small diameter rollers 22, 23, Fig. 1, are mounted on a platform 21 each pair at right angles to the other pair. The frame section 26 lies between the pairs of rollers 22, 23, the section 25 extends upwardly between the rollers 22 and the section 27 extends downwardly between the rollers 23. The rollers 22, 23 may be freely rotatable, as shown, or driven in synchronism with the passage of fabric through the apparatus by the motor 18. In a modification (not shown), the rollers 23 and optionally the rollers 22 may drive the fabric through the apparatus and the roller 15 is omitted.
