621,190. Cutting cloth. SHREVE, J. H. Jan. 28, 1947, No. 2653. Convention date, June 5, 1946. [Class 31 (i)] A machine for cutting a cloth tube or the like into sheet material comprises a stationary spreader frame over which the tubular material is pulled, the frame comprising a pair of elongated members relatively adjustable in width, each of which is slotted along in its side in the direction of travel of the material, motorized knives being positioned outwardly of the frame to work in the slots. As shown in Fig. 1, the former comprises two U-shaped metal tubes 16, 17 telescopically interconnected so that they can be adjusted and secured by wing-nuts 18 to suit the size of the cloth tube. The sides of the former are slotted at 14, 15 to accommodate the circular knives 12, 13 driven by electric motors 21, 22 which are adjustably mounted on the cross-bar 25 and clamped in position by screws 27. As shown in Fig. 4, the tubular fabric 11, e.g. as produced on a knitting machine, passes over roller 28, is stretched over the former 10 and slit by the circular knives, the cut fabric being passed between the driven rollers 31, 32 and laid on the table 35.
