Abstract

1409577 Cutting and stitching fabric C ARBTEB 14 Dec 1972 [9 June 1972] 57855/72 Heading B8R In the production of cut, sewn and folded fabric sheets from two webs 4, the webs are cut into sheets at cutting stations 8 sewn along their cut edges by sewing machines 20 and 21 at two sewing stations and the cut and sewn sheets from both stations are directed on to a single supporting surface 41 for folding. The webs are drawn over tables 6 by conveyers 7 and looped into recesses 11, the forward end of the web being held by a clamp 18. Belt conveyers 16 and 17 grip the leading and trailing margins of the looped piece of web and a travelling cutter 15 severs the piece from the roll. The pieces, still in looped condition, are forwarded past sewing machines 20 and 21 where the lateral edges are hemmed. A reversible conveyer 29, 30 receives sewn pieces alternately from the two sewing stations and forwards them to a point where gripping means 31 on endless chain 39 pull the pieces on to a surface 41 for folding first by a folding plate 43 and two folding sliders 44 and then by two reciprocable folding blades 48 and 50.
