Abstract
697,001. Making fabric tubes. SPIRAL BAGGING MACHINE CORPORATION. Sept. 14, 1948 [Oct. 2, 1947]. No. 24134/48. Class 99 (ii). In a machine for making fabric tubes in which a sheet of material is wound helically on a stationary mandrel A, the helical seams being stitched at a sewing point 14, and the mandrel comprises parallel fixed bars 10, 11 and one or more movable rods 36, at least one of which is on the side of the machine opposite the feed table 13, for small adjustments of the size of tube, larger adjustments are made by the provision of one or more detachably mounted rods 37. The rods 36 are supported by links 29, Fig. 3, connected to the frame 28 and links 30 connected to a bar 31 actuated by the handle 35 of a screwed spindle 32. The rods 37 are carried by arms 38 detachably secured to the bar 10, the length of the arms used being selected to suit the size of tube required. The tube is flattened on leaving the mandrel by a spreading device comprising adjustable links 15, 18, and stored on a winding device C. Since the axis of the mandrel may vary in position according to which rods 36, 37 are used, the winder is laterally adjustable on rails 27, and the spreader may be secured in selected positions on a cross-bar 25.
