Abstract

1,093,339. Tube forming machine. TEPAR A.G. March 18, 1966 [April 5, 1965], No. 12057/66. Heading F2P. A roller guide device in a machine for forming a paper web 14 into a tubular shape, the tubular forming taking place after changing the feed direction of the web by device, is characterised is that the device includes a guide roller 12 which is mounted for substantially free displacement in a plane perpendicular to the feed direction of the web on supports and over which the web is arranged to run such that the position of the roller is determined by the forces acting on the web. In the embodiment described, the roller is mounted for rolling movement on brackets 15 extending from the framework 10 of a tube forming machine as described in Specification No. 691,649 and illustrated in Fig. 1 and 2 (not shown). Stops 22 are provided on the extremities of the brackets and flanges (19) are provided on roller pins 13 to axially locate the rollers on the brackets. The top surfaces of the brackets may slope at a small angle α to the horizontal, preferably at 2 degrees, or, alternatively, said surfaces may be concave or convex. The web edges, after passing around the guide roller, are partially shaped to tubular form by wires (62) prior to passing through tubular formers (18 and 20), seaming device (24), and draw rollers (64). The formed tube may be fashioned into tetrahedron-shaped packages by welding at mutually perpendicular welding zones (78 and 79).
