Abstract

1,274,173. Feeding webs. ZERAND CORP. 19 April, 1971 [5 March, 1970], No. 22878/71. Heading B8R. Apparatus for feeding a web W to a cartonforming press P or the like comprises a set of metering rollers 3, 4, 12 which continuously feed the web at a measured rate; a pair of rollers 5, 6 for intermittently feeding the web to the press P; a brake bar 7, 8 so arranged that a web passing through the metering rollers is formed into a loop L when the bar is in a web-clamping position and is pulled out of said loop when the rollers 5, 6 are operating and the bar is in a web-releasing position; and a shiftable dancer 15 located for movement with the loop, this movement being effected in timed relationship with the formation-movement of the loop whereby when the rolls are pulling the loop out the loop contacts the dancer at a matched velocity and when moving in the same direction. The mechanism for moving the dancer 15 includes an adjustable linkage 32, 34, 30 for varying the displacement of the dancer to accommodate different repeat lengths of web and a cam 36 for activating the linkage in timed relationship with the feeding of the web. The arrangement eliminates violent slapping of the loop as it is being pulled taut by the feed rollers 5, 6.
