Abstract

1,071,519. Embossing apparatus. ADOLPH GOTTSCHO Inc. Aug. 12, 1965 [Oct. 8, 1964], No. 41131/64. Heading B6J. A block foil marking apparatus having a fluid pressure operated vertically reciprocable ram assembly 13 for moving an electrically heated die 12 toward and away from an intermittently moving web 11 to be blocked and guide rollers 55 extending a hot roll leaf stamping tape 10 between the die 12 and the web, comprises an intermittently operable unidirectional feeding roller 42 for moving the tape when the roller is turned in a clockwise direction so as to expose a fresh length of the tape to the action of the heated die. The apparatus also incorporates an oscillatable quadrant member 31 having two relatively movable spaced abutments 35, 30 thereon and a rockable lever 32 pivoted about the same axis as the quadrant and extending between the abutments thereof so as to have a lost motion connection therewith. The lever is connected through a link 34 with the ram assembly so as to be rocked in response to the movement of the die by the operation of the assembly. A rack on the quadrant engages a pinion 40 connected to the roller through a one-way clutch to effect clockwise turning of the roller when the quadrant member is rocked by the lever in response to the operation of the ram assembly causing movement of the die away from the web. Fig. 5 (not shown) shows a schematic diagram of a system of controlling the marking apparatus from an associated wrapping or other web utilizing machine.
