Abstract
777,776. Straightening; altering physical structure. BIGWOOD & SON, Ltd., J. May 10, 1955 [May 14, 1954], No. 14132/54. Class 83 (4). In or for a roller levelling machine means for imparting a sharp bend to the sheet 21 being treated comprises a pair of opposed bending rolls 14, each pair of ends of which is mounted in a common carrier 13, the two carriers being mounted inside frames 10 of the machine for rotation about a horizontal axis, said means being characterized in that each bending roll 14 is supported, at its side remote from the other bending roll 14, by a pair of spaced parallel support rolls 22 carried in a member 23 which is adjustable towards and away from the bending roll, along a direction which is inclined to the vertical. The adjustment of the member 23 is effected by fiuid pressure means 24. In operation, the sheet 21 is passed through guide rolls 11, the bending rolls 14 and pinch rolls 12. The carriers 13 are then angularly adjusted by gears 16 to move the rolls 14 to the position shown in Fig. 3. Sheet 15 then fed through is deflected by the rolls 14 to cold work it and prevent stretcher strains therein, passing from the rolls 12 to the roller levelling machine.
