960,708. Curving. A. FERRANTI. Nov. 16, 1960 [Nov. 16, 1959], No. 39414/60. Heading B3E. A sheet bending machine comprising a set of three rolls rotatably mounted in a frame, one of which rolls is displaceable relatively to the other two rolls, has a curved guide mounted at one or each end of the displaceable roll and adapted to guide along a curved path a bearing support at the corresponding end of the displeaceable roll. Two lower rolls 14, 15 are driven by one motor (not shown) and an upper roll 16 on end shafts 17 is driven through friction clutch means 62, 72 from a gear 64 driven by a motor-reduction gear unit 68. The end shafts 17 are each mounted in a bearing 18 in a carrier 20 which latter comprises a lower part 24 and an upper part 22 connected by a pivot 26. The part 22 is of semicylindrical shape at 30 where it is accommodated in a corresponding seat 32 in a frame 34. The part 24 is guided by a lower wall 38 in the frame 34 to pivot about the upper seat 32. Such pivotal adjustment is effected by a worm 48, driven by a motor 50, rocking a fork 51 about a pivot 44 on the frame 34, the fork 51 embracing the shaft 17 where it is supported by an extension 52 of the bearing part 24. Adjustment at each end of the roll 16 is synchronized and is made at the beginning of the bending, the roll being thereafter moved back to its central position. For bending into conical form the adjustment is effected in opposite directions at opposite ends. The bearing carriers 20 could be adjusted by hydraulic means.
