Abstract

1,146,045. Composite articles. REYNOLDS METALS CO. 24 March, 1966, No. 13085/66. Heading B3F. In a method of solidifying molten metal as by casting, solid particles are projected into a mass of molten metal whereby heat exchange occurs between the melt and the particles producing a rapid and uniform solidification. The particles may be metallic or non-metallic or formed by mixture of metallic or non-metallic materials. Fusion of the surface of the particles occurs to effect a coherent mass in which the particles are held in a solid metal matrix. The finished composite material may be rolled or otherwise worked.
