Abstract

1,145,837. Transistor amplifying circuits. JOSEPH LUCAS (INDUSTRIES) Ltd. 16 May, 1966 [18 June, 1965], No. 25828/65. Heading H3T. A push-pull amplifier is provided with means limiting the instantaneous value of the drive in the event of the impedance of the load falling below a predetermined level. Signal is applied to the base of transistor 12 which with transistor 18, the base of which is earthed, constitutes an emitter coupled pair coupled by resistor 13. Transistors 12, 18 drive via transformer 16 the base emitter paths of a pair of series-connected output transistors 23, 24 operating in class B into a common load 30 via transformers 27, 29. The maximum drive current is limited by common resistor 13. In addition a voltage proportional to that across the load 30 is developed across a tertiary winding 31 on the output transformer and is rectified by bridge rectifier 32, being applied to the base/ emitter circuit of transistor 18 via resistor 33, in such a manner that the drive is limited if the impedance of the load 30 is unduly reduced.
