Abstract
1,066,128. Transistor amplifiers. INTERNATIONAL STANDARD ELECTRIC CORPORATION. Oct. 8, 1965 [Oct. 9, 1964]. No. 42755/65. Heading H3T. A push-pull amplifier comprises a complementary pair of emitter coupled transistors 1, 2, an identical pair of Zener diodes 3, 4 connected in series-aiding across the collectors of the transistors, a single power supply + V including a current limiting resistor 9 connected across the parallel connection of transistors and diodes, resistors 5-8 to bias and balance the transistors for Class B operation, means 11 to apply an input signal to the bases of the transistors, and means 10 to derive an output signal between the common points A, B of the diodes and transistors respectively. The Zeners operate in their breakdown condition. With zero input, both transistors are cut-off and zero output results. With an input other than zero, one transistor is cut-off and the other conducts, depending on the polarity of the input, and an output between A and B is produced of polarity dependent upon that of the input. Amplifiers according to the invention may be directly coupled, coupling point B of one stage to point E of the following stage.
