Abstract
1334674 Transistor amplifying circuits PLESSEY CO Ltd 19 April 1971 [2 Dec 1969] 58677/69 Heading H3T [Also in Division G4] In an amplifying circuit, the difference voltage across input terminals 5, 6, Fig. 1, is applied with one polarity to the input terminals of differential amplifier 12, and in the opposite polarity to the input terminals of differential amplifier 14. The outputs from amplifiers 12, 14 drive transistors 16, 18 which are biased to saturation in the absence of an input; thus, according to the polarity of the input at terminals 5, 6 one of the transistors 16, 18 remains in saturation and the other produces an output voltage of predetermined polarity and of magnitude dependent upon the modulus of the input voltage difference. The outputs from transistors 16, 18 are combined by means of resistors 26, 28. In a corresponding circuit, the transistors 40, 42 and 44, 46, Fig. 2, respectively, comprise the amplifiers 12, 14, the input voltage difference being applied directly to the bases of transistors 40, 44 from the input terminals 6, 5, respectively, and the input of reversed polarity is obtained by coupling the emitters of transistors 40, 44 by a common emitter resistor 48. According to the Provisional Specification, the arrangements may be used as full-wave detectors.
