Abstract

1,141,710. Cables. BRITISH INSULATED CALLENDER'S CABLES Ltd. 3 Aug., 1967 [4 Aug., 1966; 17 Aug., 1966], Nos. 34940/66 and 36827/66. Heading H1A. In a telecommunications cable with a loosely fitting sheath, the core comprises at least seven minor units (single insulated conductors) or at least three major units (twisted pairs or quads). The units may all run parallel, or have a length of lay greater than five feet, and the sheath may be circular or of flat cross-section. A telephone cable, shown in Fig. 1, comprises sixty pairs of P.V.C. insulated copper conductors 1, an aluminium tape screen 2, with overlapping edges, and a loosely fitting P.V.C. sheath 3 with a discontinous rib 4, tapping or cutting points being made between adjacent parts of the rib. The position of the overlapping edges in the screen may be indicated by an ink line or printed legend in the sheath, or by shallow grooves in the sheath which guide the slitting knife. Spacers may be provided between the units and the sheath.
