Abstract
114,144. Jeackes Knitting Machine Co., (Assignees of Miller, M. C.). March 12, 1917, [Convention date]. Circular machines; straight bar machines.-In machines having independentlyoperated bearded needles, particularly circular hosiery machines, a beard-engaging presser 11 is arranged in front of the needles 4 which are deflected to engage the presser 11 pins 14 or other by a series of sliding needle pressers arranged behind the needles and operated by a cam 15 at the pressing point. The pins 14 may be arranged in staggered rows, as shown, and may each engage one or more needles. As applied to a rotary needle machine, the cam 15 is formed on a tube 16 extending downwardly through the cylinder 1 and operated by a lug 17 engaging with stop plates 18 adjustably secured to a fixed disk 20. The needles are provided with recesses 21 which register with the pins 14 when the needles are raised to an inactive position during reciprocating knitting, so that the inactive needles are not deflected and do not interfere with the proper lead of yarn. The radial needle pressers may be applied to circular machines generally to bend the needles outwards at a predetermined point for any known purpose.
