Abstract

1,141,067. Retaining wheel on axle. GEO. H. HUGHES Ltd. 15 June, 1967 [17 June, 1966], No. 27178/66. Heading B7C. A wheel is retained on an axle 27 by a plunger 31 which engages a groove 28 in the axle, the plunger being mounted on a radial flange 12a of the wheel hub and being urged into engagement with the groove by a spring. A helical spring may be used instead of the bow spring shown in Fig. 1. The hub may be provided with an end cap 22 having slots 50 which register with slots 30 in the flange 12a and through which lugs 32a, 32b of the plunger extend. The wheel may be mounted on the axle by depressing lug 32a against the action of the spring and sliding the wheel hub on to the axle to a position where on release of the lug 32a the plunger engages the groove. In a modification, the plunger is mounted on an end cap which snap-engages in slots in a radial flange of the hub.
