Abstract

1,140,053. Injection moulding applicators. G. SCHWARTZMAN. 12 April, 1966 [28 June, 1965], No. 15830/66. Heading B5A. [Also in Division A4] In a method of moulding the retainer ring of a pad applicator (see Division A4), a sheet of foam material 22 is compressed between the parts 12 and 14 of a mould to form a thin strip, except between the core pieces 18 and 20, where it expands slightly. On injecting molten polyethylene, in the direction of the arrows 24, 26 and 28, the retainer ring is formed and simultaneously bonded to the foam material, which is preferably polyurethane. The excess foam is trimmed off either by die cutting or during the moulding step. A rubber polythene, described as ultrathene, may be used for the injection moulding. The foam strip 22 may have a backing of nylon fabric. Alternative foam materials include neoprene and cellulose. Reference has been directed by the Comptroller to Specification 928,144.
