Abstract

113,982. Thatcher, A. G. H. Dec. 9, 1916. Closure completed by molten material.- Relates to means for closing or sealing jars and the like containing cooked fruit, food, &c. in which a floating cover fitting into the mouth of the jar &c. is secured in position by means of wax or other fusible substance. According to the invention, the lower part of the cover A is provided with an enlargement or flange H which fits loosely in the top of the jar B so as to form an annular space above it for the fusible substance E. The cover may be of glass or earthenware, and is made with its upper face concave and its lower face convex so that it will float on the top of the contents of the jar with the edge of the flange H partly imersed. Recesses or grooves F may be formed in the exterior of the upper part D of the cover and in the interior of the jar to form a key for the wax E. A central projection G on the cover serves as a handle.
