Abstract

101,011. Roberts, F. May 22, 1916. Addition to 9997/15. Capsule closures.- Relates to a modification of the closure described in the parent Specification, in which the metal collar to which the metal top or cover of a glass, earthenware, or like jar &c. is scldered is secured to the jar by a layer of Portland cement or the like placed around the outside of the jar at or near its mouth. The metal cover D is soldered to an annularmetal disk, ferrule, or collar B, the upper part of which is rounded to fit the top of the jar A, and the lower part b offset so as to leave a space between it and the jar for the reception of the cement C. The cover D has its edge turned down to form a rib d, which seats upon the top of the collar B or round the outside of a small upturned lip b' on the inner edge of the collar. A tongue-piece E is provided at one side of the cover for use in tearing-off the cover. The upper part of the collar B may be coated on the inside with shellac, which is caused by heat to unite with the cement.
