Abstract

1,139,260. Ship's devices. BERGENS MEKANISKE VERKSTEDER A.S. 3 Jan., 1967 [31 March, 1966], No. 295/67. Heading B8B. The slewing guys 23, 24 of a ship's derrick are kept taut during slewing of the boom 10 by the topping rope 13, 14, 15 to which they are attached at the crowfoot 16. The moving part of the slewing guy 17 passes from the crowfoot 16 round pulleys 19, 21, 25, 27 and down to a winch drum. The other guy 18 is similarly reeved. With this arrangement the tip of the boom dips slightly during slewing as the topping rope takes up the slack which develops in the slewing guy which is being paid out.
