Abstract
1,138,022. Fluid amplifiers. SCANS ASSOCIATES Inc. Dec.10, 1965, No. 34738/68. Divided out of 1,138, 021. Heading G3H. In a fluid amplifier, high-pressure and lowpressure cells 22, 23 are separated by a flexible member 21 connected to a vertically movable shaft 36 aligned at its lower end with a control orifice 37. A pressure line 30 flows through orifice 71, 72, chamber 73, conduit 74, through orifice 37 into pressure chamber 75, conduit 76 and chamber 77. Chambers 73, 77 are divided by a diaphragm 80 which controls, through conduit 81, ball valve 86. In use, a decrease in pressure in chamber 23 causes shaft 36 to move downwardly closing orifice 37, thus increasing the pressure in chamber 73 to flex diaphragm 80, thus unseating valve 86, to cause an increase in pressure in chamber 77 balancing the pressure on either side of diaphragm 80. A pressure indicating instrument is connected via conduit 78 to chamber 77, thus in effect indicating the pressure across diaphragm 21. Amplification is provided by connecting chamber 75, via port 91, valve 55, conduits 51, 151, 91, to chamber 52 on the high-pressure side of diaphragm 53. Thereby assisting movement of shaft 36 to further restrict nozzle 37 and thus increase the pressure in chambers 73 and thus 77. Valve 55 which controls the amplification effect is set by means 58, and a bleed valve 56 is provided.
