Abstract
1,137,787. Turn indicator switches. SWFSPEZIALFABRIK FUER AUTOZUBEHOER GUSTAV RAU G.m.b.H. 17 July, 1967 [10 Dec., 1966], No. 32712/67. Heading G4Q. [Also in Division H1] A turn-indicator switch for road vehicles comprises an operating lever 24 pivoted at 23 and provided with forked ends which extend round the steering column 13 and engage a switch member 34 provided with a return mechanism comprising a single cam 43 adapted to co-operate with an operating pin 14 attached to the steering column. The switch member 34 carries on its lower side a contact bridge (60, Fig. 3, not shown), adapted to bridge fixed contacts (20) in the base of the switch when the member is moved to either of its operative positions, and is maintained in one of its three positions by a spring - loaded ball co-operating with recesses in an extension 15. The lever 24 can also pivot in the vertical plane about the points where the ends 32 of the arms engage recesses 33 in the switch member, thereby operating a further switch comprising the bridging member 30 and fixed contacts (not shown in Fig. 2). Switch return mechanism.-The cam 43 is biased radially inwards by a spring 45 and is restrained by a pin (44, Fig. 1, not shown), bearing on the shaped surface 42 of the switch member 34. When the latter is displaced the cam moves radially until restrained by the pin 14, and when the steering column is rotated the cam moves into the path of the pin, and one side of the cam engages one or other of two stop members (not shown in Fig. 1), disposed in apertures 36 in the switch member. When the steering column is returned the pin 14 engages the cam 43 which applies pressure to the stop member to return the switch to the neutral position. The stop members are held in position by one or more springs so that if the switch is held on they can yield and the switch is not damaged. In one arrangement (Fig. 3, not shown), the two stop members are connected together by a tension spring (41), and in another arrangement (Fig. 8, not shown) each stop member is biased by a compression spring disposed in the aperture 36.
