Abstract
1,018,357. Direction indicator switches for road vehicles. S.W.F.-SPEZIALFABRIK FUER AUTOZUBEHOER GUSTAV RAU G.m.b.H. Nov. 13, 1964 [Nov. 16, 1963], No. 46273/64. Heading G4Q. A direction indicator switch comprises an operating lever 3 pivoted at 4 to the switch and surrounding the steering column 7, the inner ends of the lever engaging a locking and return member 8 which is displaceable radially. In the arrangement shown in Fig. 1 the member 8 is held in position by a spring-loaded ball 13 engaging locking recesses 2 in the casing. When the lever 3 is rotated, one of two friction members 14 on the member 8 engages the steering column so that return movement of the column after making a turn restores the switch to its central position. In a modification, Fig. 3 (not shown), the members 14 are replaced by cam surfaces on the member 8 which co-operate with a pin rotating with the steering column, and in a further modification, Fig. 4 (not shown), the ball is replaced by a roller. In further modifications, Figs. 6-9 (not shown), a leaf spring provides the locking recesses 2 and also acts as a locking force on the ball or roller instead of the separate spring 12.
