Abstract
113,730. Marfell, P. J. June 21, 1917. Jib cranes. - The load carried bv a crane is balanced automatically by a counterweight 12 running on a track 20 the inclination of which can be varied to balance the jib. A rope 8 secured to the counterweight is passed round a pulley at the end of the track 20 and led over a fair-lead 10<A> and pulley 10 to a wheel 4, to the periphery of which it is secured at the point 9. The hoisting-rope 1 is passed over a pulley 3 mounted on the rim of the wheel 4, and under a pulley 5 mounted on the. shaft 6, and is then led to the winding-drum. For any particular inclination of the jib, the counterweight is moved rearwards along the track by the rotation of the wheel 4 until it balances the load. A roller 22 on the pivoted track 20 rests on a cam 21, the shaft of which is connected by gearing to the pivot of the jib 7, so that the inclination of the track is varied by the adjustment of the jib.
