Abstract

1,136,761. Engine stop gear; supplying fuel. H.A. SAPP and W.A. STAINSBY. Dec. 10, 1965 [Dec.15, 1964], No.51065/64. Headings F1B and F1K. A control device, insertable in the fuel supply means of an internal-combustion engine, includes a fuel valve 35 and abutment means extending therefrom to a diaphragm sealed chamber, resilient means 22 acting upon the valve to maintain it in engagement with the diaphragm 16 of the chamber through the abutment means. The chamber space to that side of the diaphragm further from the valve is connectible to the engine lubrication pressure, to provide a force acting against the resilient means and urging the fuel valve to an open position and the space on the other side of the diaphragm has a vent connection 13 permitting free communication to the interior of the chamber either of fuel from the outlet side of the valve or of atmospheric pressure. In an embodiment (not shown) the valve is a piston comprising a duct adapted to afford passage for fuel from an inlet port to an outlet port. The invention is applicable to petrol engines and diesel engines. In the case of a diesel engine the device may be associated with a priming reservoir. The device is also applicable to gas engines.
