Abstract

An oil burner includes an atomizer 17 which sprays oil mixed with primary air into a combustion space and secondary air enters via a duct 20 and an air director 21 which comprises a tubular shell 22 with frusto-conical shield 23 and containing a block 24 of refractory material and is supported on rods 28 so as to be movable to and from a throat ring 46 so that secondary air passes between the shield and the throat and is directed inwardly toward the fuel spray nozzle and as the fuel supply is varied the secondary air flow can be varied. The rods 28 are bolted to a thrust ring 30 having pins which are engaged by a stirrup linked to one end of a lever 33 carrying a pin 36 which engages a cam slot 38 in a cam plate 39 attached to the output spindle 40 of a geared servomotor 41 operated in response to an automatic control which controls the fuel supply.
