Abstract

1,133,659. Yarn-tensioning devices. VICKERS-ZIMMER A.G. PLANUNG UND BAU VON INDUSTRIEANLAGEN. 26 Sept., 1966 [23 Oct., 1965], No. 42835/66. Heading DID. Variations in the tension of yarn &c. taken off a reserve are offset by providing a brake rod which is inclined to the path of the yarn leaving the rod and which is pivotally-mounted and resiliently - loaded; the yarn is wrapped more than once around the rod and is tensioned by the resilient loading of the rod. In Fig. 1, supply - yarn, after being tensioned by the rod is traversed at 7' over feed-rollers 8, 9 is stretched in a first zone between a first godet 10 and the feed rollers, and is then stretched in a second zone between the first godet and a second godet 12, a heater 11 being arranged between the two godets. The yarn is finally taken up on a ring-twister 14. The package 2 is mounted horizontally so as not to rotate and tension changes occur e.g. in dependence upon whether the yarn is drawn from the back of the package, when it has to slide over the length of the package, or from the front. The brake rod 3 is arranged to be inclined to the yarn portions before and after it and has, extending at right angles to it, an extension 6, a guide eye 3 being formed where the rod and the extension join. The eye is positioned at the axis of the package and the rod is pivoted at this point. The extension is rotatably mounted in a fixed sleeve 16 and loaded, to oppose rotation of the extension by the tension on the yarn, by a helical spring 17 between the sleeve and a collar 18. The load is adjusted by inserting the ends of the spring in selected ones of a series of bores in one or both of the collar and sleeve. A hook 5 prevents the yarn sliding off the bar. In modifications, the package 2 may be replaced by a can; the spring 17 can be replaced by a leaf-spring or torsion-bar, by a weight or by a compression spring connected between the extension and a fixed part. The extension 6, instead of lying at right-angles to the rod may extend beyond the eye coaxially, and be loaded by a spring connected between it and a fixed part. Because the yarn passes to the brake rod through the eye 3 it goes on to the brake-rod always at the same place; owing to the inclination of the rod, even a slight degree of pivoting changes the length of the yarn between the reserve and the feed system whereby tension changes are compensated.
