Abstract

[Also in Division E2] An automatic locking mechanism for a lift shaft door 20, comprises an axially slidable bolt 2 for engagement with a socket in the door, a switch 10 for connection in a control circuit for the hoisting mechanism of the cage which is operated by the bolt in such a way that the switch is opened when the bolt is in a withdrawn position, a linkage 3, 4, 5 intended for operation by a slide 1 on the lift cage and operative to move the bolt to its withdrawn position, and a blocking device 11 for preventing return movement of the linkage and hence of the bolt with consequent closing of the switch when the door is open, the device including a pair of permanent magnets 12, 21 one of which 21 is for mounting on the lift shaft door in a position such as to repel the second against a biasing force when the door is closed to a position in which the device is rendered inoperative. In the construction shown the magnet 12 is connected to the blocking device 11 so that when the door is closed the device is moved upwardly against the force of a spring 13; the upward movement of the device moves a projection 8 out of the path of a catch 9 connected to a bell crank 3 of the linkage thus allowing movement of the linkage. The bell crank 3 has one end portion engaging the bolt 2 and the other end portion connected to an intermediate portion of a slidable rod 4 of the linkage which in turn is moved via a lever 5 of the linkage and a roller by the slide 6 on the lift cage. The device 11 has an oblique end surface 14 constituting a ramp co-operating with a pin 15 rigidly fixed to the rod 4 and when the door is unlocked the pin 15 holds the device 11 in the position in which the projection 8 is in the path of the catch 9 so that the bolt 2 cannot be moved to locking position. In the event of the slide 6 being retracted by an electromagnet from the path of the roller before the lift shaft door has closed the hoisting mechanism still cannot be operated since the magnet 21 is not in a position to influence the magnet 12 so that the device 11 is in its lower position and the projection 8 is in engagement with the catch 9.
