Abstract

An adaptor device for connecting a liquid dispensing pipe and a pressurized gas supply to a beverage container, such as a beer cask, comprises a first coupling part 10 formed by components 12 and 15 having a through bore ‹ 16, a second coupling part 11 in which the first coupling part is slidably mounted, an annular gas passage 18 defined between the coupling parts and communicating with a gas supply port 19 when the device is secured to a container flange 27, a support member 26 adapted to be secured to the container and resiliently mounting the second member and an operating cam member 30 mounted on the support member and engageable with the first coupling part. On initial rotation of the cam member, the first and second coupling parts are urged downwards compressing springs 28 on pair of guide studs 25 (only one being shown) secured to the support member and open a closure member 14 in the container opening. The passage 18 is thus placed in communication with container interior. Further rotation of the cam member compresses a helical spring 22 to slidably depress the first coupling member with respect to the second coupling member thereby separating normally abutting shoulders 19 and 20 with an interposed seal 23 so that pressurized gas, such as carbon dioxide, can pass from supply port 19, through the gas passage 18 into the container. Liquid is then discharged past a non-return valve 17 through the bore 16. In a modification, Fig. 2 (not shown), the cam member is replaced by a screw stud (32) and the helical spring 22 replaced by an annular spring washer (36).
