Abstract

Fringing-machines.-Picot edging is formed in an overedge-seaming machine by drawing out isolated loops of the needle or looper threads. In the form shown in Fig. 1, the machine comprises a needle N, thread-carrying looper L, a spreader S for the needle-thread loop, and a retaining finger R which is timed to engage a needle-thread or looper-thread loop at required intervals. In a modification, the overseaming stitch may be formed with three threads. The spreader S is in this case replaced by a thread-carrying looper, and the retaining finger is adapted to engage one or other of the looper-threads. The edge of the fabric F may be folded within the limits of the overseaming stitches.
