Abstract
1,130,048. Protective toe caps; insoles. E. W. PETERSON. 28 Sept., 1966 [4 Jan., 1966], No. 43263/66. Heading A3B. An open-ended toe cap 21, for a safety shoe, integral with a sole protector 20 is made from a single blank of sheet metal, plastics or fibre material, edges 22 abutting and being secured together e.g. by welding or overlapping and being riveted together. Holes H and/or H4 are provided in the sole protector 20 for stitching or metal fasteners to anchor it to the bottom structure of the shoe. In an alternative embodiment an initially separate sole protector is welded or adhesively secured to inturned lower edges of the toe cap. In further embodiments in which the rear part of the sole protector is omitted inturned lower edges of the toe cup substantially meet under the foot and are secured together by metallic fasteners linking holes along said edges or by welding both edges to an underlying plate. Alternatively the underfoot part is un-broken, the edges meeting above the toes and being left free or united e.g. by welding directly or to an overlying plate.
