Abstract

1,153,867. Boots &c. BREVITT SHOE MFRS. Ltd. and A. ATLAS. 25 Oct., 1966 [11 Nov., 1965], No. 47956/65. Heading A3B. A shoe 1 having an outer 7 of crepe rubber is made by securing the upper 5 to an inner sole 4 and an intermediate sole 2, securing a layer of crepe rubber to the underside of the intermediate sole 2 e.g. by a neoprene based adhesive, the layer of crepe rubber having a marginal portion extending beyond the sole 2 and having cut away darts 9 in the heel and toe region, warming the layer 7 to soften it, bending the marginal portions upwardly to engage the edge of the inner sole 4 and sole 2 so that the sides of the darts 9 meet to form an uninterrupted cover 11 along the edge and securing the upturned marginal portion to the edge. The layer 7 of crepe rubber may be warmed by blowing hot air on to the layer and the marginal portion is thumbed up to engage the edges of the inner sole 4 and sole 2 to which it is attached by adhesive. The top edge of the upturned portion 11 is then trimmed level with the bottom edge of the upper 5. The upper 5 has an out-turned edge which is attached to the inner sole 4 and sole 2 by stitching 6.
