Abstract
1,129,611. Expansion joints. ASSOCIATED ELECTRICAL INDUSTRIES Ltd. 26 Oct., 1965 [25 Jan., 1965], No. 3174/65. Heading F2G. In a unit for incorporation in a straight pipe line, two aligned pipes 1, 3 are connected by a flexible bellows 5 and mechanically coupled as by links 11, 21 to rigid members 15, 25 between which is interposed an annular flexible bellows 29 the interior of which is in communication with the pipes by means of a duct 31 whereby the pressure in the bellows 29 tends to draw the pipes axially together and the axial thrust along each of the pipes is transmitted so that no unbalance force results. A supply of clean fluid is admitted via a pipe 35 to the bellows 29 and at a pressure greater than that in the pipes 1, 3 so that the direction of fluid flow is from the bellows 29 to the pipes to thereby prevent the bellows from becoming contaminated by deleterious impurities carried by the fluid in the pipeline.
