Abstract

1,125,743. Rotary drying drum. R. R. JONES. 5 June, 1967 [12 March, 1966], No. 10950/66. Heading F4G. A rotary drum drier for poultry manure comprises concentrical inner and outer cylinders 3, 4 on a horizontal axis, the inner being fed at one end adjacent a burner 22 with the material from a feed arrangement 15 and having internal lifters and helically-arranged vanes (not shown) to pass the material therealong into contact with additional vanes 28 co-operating with an end flange 10 of the outer cylinder 3 to produce a return flow of the material through an annular space 29 between the cylinders to outlet apertures 30 in the feed end of the drum. The cylinders open at the end remote from the feed arrangement into a suction box 33 connected to a suction fan (not shown) which maintains the flame of the burner and draws off combustion products and water vapour from the inner cylinder and also produces a countercurrent flow of dry cooling air through the space 29. A cyclone separator 39 and water-scrubbing device 43 for the flue gases may be incorporated and also an after-burner to remove volatile elements from the exhaust gases. The feed device utilizes a system of rotating worms and operation of the drier may be effected automatically.
