Abstract

1,125,028. Motor vehicle power units. REGIE NATIONALE DES USINES RENAULT. 12 Dec., 1966 [5 Jan., 1966], No. 55645/66. Addition to 1,090,727. Heading B7H. A motor vehicle power unit comprising in accordance with the parent Specification an engine 1 and gear-box 6 which are disposed on opposite sides of a differential and coupled through a torque converter 7 disposed at the end of the gear-box remote from the differential, is adapted for mounting transversely of the vehicle, the differential 3 being housed in a common casing 31 with transfer gearing 32, 33, 35 providing the input thereto and being offset below the gear-box/crank-shaft axis so as to be locatable centrally between road wheels 39 driven thereby. In Figs. 2, 3, 4 (not shown), the power unit is mounted at the rear of the vehicle with the differential 3 offset forwardly or rearwardly as well as below the gear-box/crankshaft axis. The torque converter 7 is cooled by air supplied through a duct 40 from a high pressure zone at the front of the vehicle.
