Abstract

1,124,253. Continuous casting. GEBR. BOHLER & CO. A.G. 9 Sept., 1965 [28 Sept., 1964], No. 38513/65. Heading B3F. A vertical mould, e.g. of copper and for casting iron and steel, has expansion grooves, i.e. narrow machined slots, at least 4 mm. deep in the surfaces defining the mould cavity at least adjacent the melt surface. The grooves are 0À2-0À8 mm. in width, 5-50 mm. apart and may be formed by milling cutters. They may begin 10-50 mm. below the top edge and extend below the melt surface. There may also be horizontal grooves adjacent the melt surface. The mould is a tube, a cast or forged block or an assembly of plates.
