Abstract
1,200,382. Ingot moulds. DISTINGTON ENG. CO. Ltd. 26 June, 1968 [5 July, 1967], No. 30880/67. Heading B3F. An ingot mould comprises a metal wall surrounding and defining a casting cavity 6, the wall having a horizontal cross-sectional shape including one or more corners C, and the wall includes at each corner and only at each corner at least one bore 7 extending in the height direction of the mould. The bores can be of circular cross-section, arcuate slots or in the form of a minor segment of a circle, the arcuate part of the segment being parallel with the outer surface of the mould corner. The inclusion of bores reduces the cooling rate at the ingot mould corners after casting; the air in the bores acting as a thermal insulator. Consequently during cooling the lower ends of the bores are preferably sealed by a mould stool.
