Abstract

1,122,665. Sieves. HENRY SIMON Ltd. 10 March, 1966 [31 March, 1965], No. 13585/ 65. Heading B2H. A sieve unit for a plansifter in which the sieve units are interchangeable comprises a square or rectangular screen 1 fixed at its edges to the upper edges of the walls of a four-sided open wooden frame 2 which is supported from within and from below by a rigid cross-braced metal frame 3. The screen 1 is fixed to the frame 2 by means of staples with or without an adhesive. The side members of the metal frame 3 are L-shaped in cross-section and are arranged with their vertical flanges 4 towards the inside of the sieve unit and with their horizontal flanges .5 on a common plane. The flanges 4, 5 define recesses into which the side members of the wooden frame 2 are nested. At each corner of the wooden frame adjacent side members (13) are assembled together by a tenon and mortice joint (14, 15), Fig. 4 (not shown). Cross-bracing members (9), Fig. 1 (not shown) extend between opposite sides of the frame 3 and are rigidly joined together at the centre of the frame. Each cross-brace member comprises a metal lower part 10 and an upper resilient part 11 which fits in a longitudinal slot 12 in the part 10 so as to constitute a cushion for the screen 1. The frame 3 is formed with a recess in which a bottom closure wire-grid 8 is heated and encages one or more sieve-cleaning members 17 in each of the four sieve sections formed by the crossbracing members 9. Fixing screws 16 lock together the frames 2, 3 and the wire-grid 8.
