Abstract

1,122,374. Percussion caps for ammunition fuzes. DYNAMIT NOBEL A.G. 11 Oct., 1965 [10 Oct., 1964], No. 43128/65. Heading F3A. A percussion cap which may be mounted in the nose of a direct action fuze comprises a casing 1 and a closure 4 housing a detonating composition 2 and compressed finely divided abrasive material 3, part of the material 3 projecting into a recess in material 2 or vice-versa. The projection and the mating recess may be cylindrical or conical. Casing 1 and closure 4 may be metal or synthetic plastics. Composition 2 may consist of 5% tetrazene, 65% lead styphnate, 10% barium nitrate and 20% calcium sulphide. An alternative composition comprises 60% lead styphnate 15% barium nitrate and 25% antimony sulphide. Material 3 may be powdered glass, quartz or corundum. The cap is housed in a recess 10 which is formed in a fuze body 8 and a cover plate 9, the plate 9 being secured: by beading; 12. The recess 10 is aligned with a flash passage. 13. Bosses 6 extend from the projection 5 into the composition 2. If the projection. 5 is. conical its peripheral surface may be serrated. If the fuze makes oblique impact with the target, the easing 1 is sheared and detonation of the cap is produced by friction between materials 2; 3. For direct impact detonation is due to percussion.
