Abstract

1,118,874. False-twist apparatus. KLINGER MFG. CO. Ltd. 8 July, 1965 [9 July, 1964], No. 28332/64. Heading DID. In false-twisting apparatus, to prevent the ballooning of the yarn brought about by the yarn leaving the false-twist device along the path which does not coincide with the rotational axis of the device, e.g. because it is wrapped around a pin, a guide is provided to control the yarn as it leaves the device, the guide having two spaced surfaces for engaging the yarn and deflecting it in opposite directions. The guide is disposed so that the first surface is spaced from the device by a distance less than that of the device from the first node that would form, were the guide not present, in the ballooning yarn, while the two surfaces are separated by a distance less than that of the node from the device. The path of the yarn in passing to, through, and from the guide lies in a single plane; the guide may have a third surface which deflects the yarn in a direction inclined to this plane. The false twist apparatus is of the general form employing a rotating twist spindle, described in Specification 1,107,377. In Fig. 1, the guide is a member in a holder having a shank 22 rotatably and adjustably carried in the cover 3 of the apparatus. The member has a diametral slot 25, Fig. 3, in one end, the edges 26, 27 of which are polished and radiussed to provide the surfaces. A third surface, as referred to above, is providing by curving the base of the slot. The guide is such as to allow the yarn to pass through the guide in, or out of, contact with the base. The guide may be adjusted in the cover to act through the yarn to change the pressure between the spindle and the driving- member and to tilt the axis of rotation of the spindle relatively to that of the driving- member to offset the tendency of the spindle to be displaced downardly. by the yarn. In Fig. 6, not shown, the surfaces may be provided by two waisted pins, either of the lateral surfaces of the waists serving as the third surface in Fig. 8, the guide consists of two ceramic pins 38, 39 on a flange 37 rotatably and adjustably secured in the cover by a shank 36, pin 38 being larger than pin 39 and the latter having a groove 40 with a rounded base, either lateral surface of the groove acting as the third surface. The guide may be positioned so that the pin 38 is vertically, below the spindle or offset slightly from this position, and pin 39 may be positioned so that the yarn travelling to it may be in line with the spindle axis.
