Abstract

1,118,482. Hangers for slidable doors; operation of sliding doors. SOC. ARMETAL. 10 Feb., 1967 [15 Feb., 1966], No. 6407/67. Headings E1J and E2M. In a horizontally sliding door in which the panel P is pressed against its frame or the door opening surround D, when in its closed position to press sealing strips J against the surround and door sill, the guide support rail 22 for the horizontal movement of the door is fixed on a mount 2 which is suspended by two or more parallel link pairs 3 from an element 1 secured to the surrounding wall above the door opening and the rail with panel P can thereby be given a vertical movement and a horizontal movement away from the wall to free the panel P from the seals and held in such position by toggles 7 coupled together by being on a common hexagonal bar 10 and being passed through the dead centre and the door may then be moved horizontally along the guide rail 22, with reversal of the movements to bring the panel back to the closed position. The panel P is adjustably mounted on the hanger 27 by means of the nuts and bolt 28, 29, 30, 31, and the coupling 25/26. As shown the operation may be performed by pneumatic means comprising a jack 15 mounted on the wall above the door and having a piston rod 16 with a head 17 pivoted to the connecting pin 14 of the toggle mechanism 7 so that as the rod is raised, the toggle 7 opens and lifts the mount 2 moving parallel to the door until the link 8c eventually comes up against the stop surface 1c on the element 1 in which position the toggle has slightly passed through its dead centre and the coupling locks in this position, and the door may be slid on its guide 2. A lever mechanism is provided on the inside of the door to lift the door to near dead centre of the toggle and the freeing movement of the door is completed by a torsion spring operating on the common bar 10.
