Abstract

Hardenable alloyed or non-alloyed steels are treated to facilitate removal of scale in a subsequent shot-blasting process by subjecting them to the following sequence: (a) heating to 780-880 DEG C. and holding for 1 to 3 hours. (b) cooling to 500 DEG -680 DEG C. (c) reheating to 700 DEG -780 DEG C. holding for 1 to 3 hours. (d) cooling the steel at 5 DEG to 20 DEG C. per hour to 630 DEG C. or below. The heat treatment may be carried out as a continuous process. Treatment of two 1% chromium steels in the form of wire is particularly referred to.
