Abstract
1,116,217. Casting processes. STEWARTS & LLOYDS Ltd. 22 June, 1965 [26 June, 1964], No. 26494/64. Heading B3F. A method of casting tubes comprises the steps of causing molten metal 3 to rise, by gas pressure means, into a tubular die 4 at a rate of not less than 2 inches per second, holding the metal at a predetermined height in the die, by the gas pressure, for sufficient time for the metal to freeze to a required thickness on the wall of the die and then releasing the gas pressure to remove the molten core of metal, thus forming a tube. The rate of rise of the molten metal in the die has been found to be most suitable within the range of 2 to 15 inches per second. The die 4 is supported in the cover of a furnace body 1 which contains the molten metal 3.
