Abstract

1,116,216. Casting processes. STEWARTS & LLOYDS Ltd. 22 June, 1965 [26 June, 1964], No. 26493/64. Heading B3F. A method of casting tubes comprises the steps of causing, by gas pressure means, molten metal to rise into a tubular die 4, the lower end of which is at a lower temperature than the upper end, holding the metal in the die for sufficient time to freeze the metal to a required thickness on the wall of the die and then releasing the pressure to remove the molten core from the die thus forming a tube. The die 4 is supported in the cover member of a furnace body 1 which contains the molten metal 3. The die is preheated by means such as gas burners prior to its location in the cover member ready for the casting operation. The temperature difference between the ends of the die will depend on the metal being cast.
